CPD Seminar Thursday 26th September
Our final CPD event of 2019 features a series of two new presentations on the topics of fire safety and asbestos management.
Fire Doors: Fit for Purpose?
Colin Todd: Managing Director of C.S. Todd & Associates Ltd.
We are delighted to welcome our guest speaker Colin Todd, Managing Director of C.S. Todd & Associates Ltd. and a leading authority in the field of fire safety. Colin is a chartered fire engineer with over 40 years’ experience, a board member of the FIA and Chairman of the Association’s Fire Risk Assessment Council. He is also a previous board member of the IFE and currently chairs the IFE panel responsible for registration of fire risk assessors.
There is currently much controversy and contention regarding the issue of fire-resisting doorsets, particularly in the case of entrance doors to flats in purpose-built blocks of flats. Arguably, many doors are being replaced without risk-based justification. Ironically, some original local authority timber doors have been replaced with composite doors that are now known, in some cases, to achieve no greater fire resistance than the original doors.
Colin Todd’s presentation will examine the source of the periods of fire resistance specified for flat entrance doors, set out the history of fire resistance testing and re-examine the entire concept of fire resistance. The presentation will also review the guidance on flat entrance doors in the Local Government Association publication “Fire safety in purpose-built blocks of flats”, which remains current.
Andy Brown: Manager Asbestos Division, Strategic Risk Management Asbestos Ltd.
